In a ceremony held yesterday at the Capital Hotel Addis Ababa, Fasil Kenema’s mid-field Surafel Dagnachew has been named best player of the year 2011 EC.
Surafel has won the prize ahead of Amanuel GuebreMichael of Mekele and Habtamu Gezahegn of Sidama Bunna. His impressive form last season both for the club and the national team helped Surafel win the biggest football award in the country.
The ceremony commenced very late last night recognizes best coaches, best scorers, goal keepers and players from the 6 leagues organized by the Ethiopian Football Federation. The Federation has recognized Yidnekachew Tessema for his all-time contribution for the development of football in Ethiopia. In addition the federation has acknowledged international arbiters, Bamlak Tessema and Lydia Assefa; together with assistant arbiter Temesgen Samuel and Physiotherapist Yishak Shiferaw.
Accordingly, the federation has named Surafel Dagnachew best player, Amanuel GebreMichael best scorer and goalie of Mekele, The Guinea equatorial international Felipe Ovono Mbang best goal keeper of the year.
Surafel Dagnachew succeeds St. George’s captain Aschalew Tamene who won two consecutive awards 2009 E.C. and 2010 E.C.
Striker Senaf Wakuma of Adama City won both best player and best scorer of the year awards in women’s league. The goal keeper Emwedish Yirga of Adama was named best goal keeper of the year ahead of Martha Bekele (Mekelakeya) and Neguest Meaza (Ethiopian Commercial Bank).
